Indian Railways Cancellation Policies

Indian Railways has different cancellation policies for different types of tickets. The Indian Railways has specific cancellation policies for different types of tickets.

Confirmed Tickets:
- A flat fee will be deducted from a ticket that has been confirmed if it is cancelled 48 hours or more before the departure time of the train.
- The following deductions are made: Rs 240 for AC First Class/Executive class; Rs 200 for AC 2-Tier/First class; Rs 180 for AC 3-Tier/AC 3 Economy/AC Chair Car.
- Cancellations made between 48 and 12 hours prior to departure will be charged 25% of the total fare.
- If you cancel between 12 and 4 hours prior to departure, you will be charged 50% of your fare.
- If you cancel less than four hours before departure, or after your chart is prepared, there will be no refund.
RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) Tickets:
- RAC tickets may be canceled up to 30 minutes prior to the departure time of the train. There is a nominal cancellation fee, usually around Rs60 for each passenger.
- No refunds are given for RAC tickets after chart preparation if the status is still partially confirmed or if it does not get confirmed.
Waitlisted Tickets:
- If they are not confirmed, the system will cancel them automatically after preparing the chart. The refund is automatically processed.
- Tickets on the waitlist that are not confirmed after chart preparation do not incur a cancellation fee.
Tatkal tickets
- Tatkal tickets may be refunded, but there are specific rules.
- If you cancel a Tatkal ticket more than 48 hours prior to departure, there are higher cancellation fees than for regular tickets.
- If you cancel a Tatkal ticket on the waitlist before the chart is prepared, there is a nominal fee.
- Tatkal tickets on the waitlist after chart preparation are not eligible for a refund.
Premium Tatkal Tickets:
- The cancellation policy for Premium Tatkal Tickets is the same as that of Tatkal Tickets, but with higher charges if you cancel more than 48 hours prior to departure.
- The rules and fees for refunding Premium Tatkal Tickets on the Waitlist are specific.
