Some business owners believe that unclaimed cargo (UC) is a serious problem; this is partly true, but it is safe to say that a solution to this problem has been found. The Globy platform has a tool that allows you to connect the seller (the actual owner of the cargo) with a new buyer. In this case, the goods of decent quality (not damaged, not expired) are offered to the buyer at a reduced price. Let’s define unclaimed cargo.
UC differs from regular cargo in that it was not picked up at the port by the original customer (buyer). Such cargo remains in the port until the owner finds a new buyer. The owner is obliged to pay a penalty to the port administration for the fact that the goods are stored in the port warehouse (since, according to the law, the supplier is responsible for UC).
To find a buyer, the owner places a listing on the Globy website and offers a discount. If the product is perishable, the discount can reach 95%, but if the product has an unlimited shelf life, the discount can be minimal (5%). A potential buyer can contact the owner and ask to increase the discount (the owner’s contacts are publicly available). Next, we provide instructions on how the seller can register on Globy and properly register the listing.
For Seller
- Register as a seller. Fill out the form with your company’s details. Do not forget to leave up-to-date contact information so that interested parties can contact you.
- Upload as much information about the cargo as possible to the website. The more photos you send, the better. The buyer must make sure that you have the product they need. Upload descriptions, specifications, and additional information. Make sure that the data is not distorted, as misleading the buyer can lead to negative consequences. It is recommended to upload copies of documents confirming the safety, legality, and integrity of the abandoned cargo. You should also add your personal comments and explanation. We remind you that if you work hard to create a detailed and professional listing, you will be more likely to find a new buyer.
- Set the discount amount, taking into account the following factors: the general condition of the cargo, the shelf life of the goods, the remoteness of the port location, etc. We note that customers pay attention primarily to large discounts, so setting a minimum discount is not always advisable.
- After the listing is published, you need to monitor it, as buyers can write to you and ask various questions about the cargo and request a price reduction. If you do not respond to messages in a timely manner, then the likelihood of finding a new buyer will decrease.
For Buyer
To become a buyer on Globy, you need to take a shorter path. After registration, you need to select the appropriate product in the Unclaimed Cargo section and contact the owner to get more detailed information about the overstayed cargo. After that, you sign a contract with the vendor and pay for the product using a discount. You will not have to pay a fee for the buyout of cargo, as Globy does not process transactions and allows the buyer and seller to make payments outside the platform. Next, you have the right to review the documents and inspect the goods at the port.
