5 Things To Note Before Moving To Texas

Every now and then you just need to get away. Familiarity breeds boredom and shifting from one place to another not only helps you escape the monotony and rust in your life but helps you get newer ideas and inspirations. Which is why I love making such posts that help people settled down in a different land. I know a lot of digital nomad friends who shift base every year or so because newer sights and cultures keep their creative juices flowing. So, this post is about moving to Texas.

Don’t go unprepared

When visiting a new city, state, or country, always plan ahead. A New Englander vacationing in Texas should probably bring sunscreen, and a Californian heading to Canada shouldn’t forget to bring warm clothes. Going someplace where they speak another language? Brush up on your translations and make sure to keep a guide handy. If you’re coming from a different country, update your inoculations as well as your passport. Want to maximize the time that you have? Make an itinerary. Go online a couple of weeks before you leave and look up interesting tourist sites near your destination. Remember, though, it’s important not to get bogged down in schedules. You don’t have to see and do everything on your list. Keep your plans loose and your mind open. Don’t be afraid to be spontaneous or even lazy.

Don’t bring your past work

Old habits die hard, especially nowadays when smartphones and laptops make it all too easy to stay connected. If you’re going to spend money on a vacation, making an effort to be present at the moment and truly enjoy yourself isn’t just an act of self-care; it’s an investment. Otherwise, you’d have been better off saving your cash, and your days off, for a later date. Instead of checking your email every chance you get or trying to find time to squeeze in just one more business call, set your phone on airplane mode. Don’t be afraid to set personal boundaries with employers or clients. Get as much work done as you can before departing and leave the rest behind. Don’t worry, it’ll be waiting for you when you get home. Just so long as you remember to go home…

Find the right place

Before you start looking at Austin real estate for sale, remember that home is more than just a geographic location and a temperature. It’s not a selection of must-see sights, memorials, monuments, amusement parks, and festivals. Home is the place you know and the place where you are known, where your family and your friends and most importantly your roots are. It is, as the saying goes, where the heart is. So, do your research and zero in on a place that suits you.

Driver’s Licenses, Vehicle Registrations & Other Formalities

These technicalities are boring work but must be sorted out as early as possible so that you can go about your business peacefully. For example, as per law, you must secure a driving license in Texas within 90 days of moving. This information and processes can be figured out from the official website of texas. Also, if you are a US citizen, you also need to register as a voter.

Enjoy… but with caution

Yeah, a shift to the warm and sunny barbecue paradise that is Texas might be a revelation to someone from cooler climates. Nevertheless, be mentally prepared to face it in such a case. If you are used to cooler weather, prepare for the warm weather. At least initially do not go for too much physical activity and let your body get adjusted to it.
